The Story Behind the Pixels
This isn't just a picture; it's a collage of a decade. Each tiny square you see in this mosaic represents a real moment, a real connection Eric (E Lion) made while selling his CDs hand-to-hand. This was his life through much of his twenties – a relentless hustle fueled by passion for his music.
From the streets of California and the bright lights of Vegas to the beaches of Waikiki, Hawaii, and even a transformative year living and sharing his music all across Israel, Eric met thousands of people. The first batch of CDs came in 2010 after finishing the 'Father Nature' album, by a company called Music Distribution Inc, which was supposed to be a revolutionary music royalty system where fans could earn money by buying an artists album early. Though that company didn't quite pan out, it got Eric going and after those CDs ran out (and he still has one that he kept from that initial batch) he then got some more made while in California which were pressed by Charles at Disc Duplication USA – a hub that produced CDs for everyone from Snoop Dogg's label affiliates to local churches. He even made custom old school vinyl looking CDs which Eric easily sold. In one of Eric's songs, he famously said, 'I was stuck in another country, learned how to hustle cause I was hungry.'
Over the years, Charles made countless unique CDs for Eric, some featuring cool metallic coatings and reflective inks. Armed with these, Eric navigated the world, often trading a CD for entry into places or it became a bridge to build new friendships and to enjoy experiences most people wouldn't be brave enough to try for. Each CD became a wildcard, its value fluctuating based on the situation and the connection made. Eric even got his own disc duplication stacked CD Burner and has made custom mixes and sold them all throughout Hawaii and the world. Making countless friends along the way. These pictures capture that unpredictable, exciting journey.
The Technology Upgrade: Keeping up with the times, the hustle continues, but the format is now different, due to many people simply expressing that they no longer have access to a CD player.
